During the deadly new coronavirus pandemic, we have come to think of the nurses treating COVID-19 patients as soldiers on the front lines of a global war — underequipped, but undeterred.

They are our Florence Nightingales, putting themselves in harm’s way to serve us, and no doubt documentary filmmakers are hard at work chronicling this current pandemic to help future audiences understand the vast challenges these first responders are facing.

“The American Nurse,” a 2014 documentary by cancer survivor Carolyn Jones, is available on the distributor’s website through May 31.
