Stanley Nelson’s “Black Colleges in the Age of Trump” explores the difficult and sometimes bizarre relationship between the Trump administration and America’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Nelson, whose previous Op-Doc was “The Black Panthers, Revisited,”makes an impassioned argument for HBCUs as an important wellspring for activism and social mobility.

This short documentary is adapted from Nelson’s feature, “Tell Them We Are Rising: The Story of Black Colleges and Universities,” which will air on Independent Lens on PBS on February 19.
