While the real-life rise and fall of auto business tycoon John DeLorean isn’t as fantastical as the plot of the DeLorean car-featuring “Back to the Future,” it’s nevertheless pretty darned strange.

The maverick auto executive found fame as a disruptor of the car industry and then much greater fame when he was seemingly caught on camera by federal agents agreeing to finance a cocaine smuggling operation.

The remarkable tale is now detailed in “Framing John DeLorean,” a part-documentary, part-dramatization which stars Alec Baldwin as DeLorean.

The film will receive its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and then open in select theaters on June 7.
